Buying cloth nappies/diapers in Japan

Updated 12/2/2013

Below are some online stores which sell cloth nappies in Japan and two international sellers- other than Amazon the Japanese sites are all in Japanese only:

Amazon Japan

The brands sold on Amazon seem to change each time I look, but at the time of this post the imported brands they carry include Fuzzibunz, Urban Fluff, TotsBots, Motherease, Charlie Banana, Imse Vimse, Kushies, gDiapers, Grovia, Bambino Mio, Disana and Itti Bitti. Usually the Amazon marketplace merchants of these nappies don't carry a full range of the brand and add a mark up of around 50% over what you would pay in the US, Canada, UK etc. There are also Chinese imports (Babyland, Sunny Baby) at quite a large mark up, and Japanese style flats, shaped nappies and covers.

Appuppu

This is an online store based in Shizuoka, selling pockets, fitteds, AIOs, covers and prefolds by  brands like Fuzzibunz, Happy Heinys, Swaddlebees, Rumparooz, Loveybums, Imse Vimse, Blueberry, Weehugger and others. They also sell liners, Snappis, wetbags, baby legwarmers etc. I have bought from this site quite a lot and always receive my purchases within two days of sending payment.

Blue Bear

This store is similar to Appuppu- a brand they sell which I have only seen on this website is Mommy's Touch, which has some cute prints- I am on the wagon for nappy purchases for a while though, so I don't want to look too closely! ;)

Loopist

Another similar site to the above, with the addition of Bummis covers- I love their Super Whisper Wraps!

Two other online sellers that are handy for people living in Japan are Alva Baby diapers and Assunta Store, both of which are based in China and sell basic pocket diapers and covers for around $5.00 US each with inserts. I have tried nappies from both stores and read a lot of reviews on different internet sites and have been impressed with the quality, especially when you consider the price! Alva has free shipping, even for just one nappy, and Assunta has very reasonable shipping costs. Assunta is actually linked to a charity in China which benefits handicapped and orphaned children so there's another reason to add to your nappy stash if you were considering it!

As well as one-size nappies Alva sells newborn-size nappies, wetbags and leggings. Assunta sells newborn-size covers and supplies for making cloth nappies- cuts of PUL fabric, snap pliers etc.

I will add websites to this post as I come across them, there are a couple of others I have seen but I will have to track down their addresses. In a future post I will be looking at different types of Japanese-style cloth nappies!

  3. There is a Japanese brand called Angel that my husband bought in an otoshidama sale at Aeon. Supposedly they are very high quality. We were given multiple demonstrations of the different brands at the store, and ended up selecting angel. Can't seem to find any reviews about them online, though.
